If you have looked around this site it should be obvious that I’m interested in more or less wild landscapes. However, I’m also intrigued by urban landscapes, wildlife, nature, night photography, musicians, some sports, street photography, and a few other odds and ends.

Even a quick look at Dan’s huge body of work will reveal that he has an eye for composition that few of us ever see. What is his secret? Go out and shoot!

Among other things I use this site to post images “on the fly,” along with information and observations on the photos. As an “assignment to myself” I post a new image every day and have been doing so for several years.. This encourages me to shoot more often and to me to seek out images I may have overlooked in my collection. Practice makes perfect – or at least makes better!

So I encourage everyone to check out Dan’s work either before you hit your next photo walk or as maybe an inspiration for some self-assigned work.

I’ve been a big fan of Flickrista for a while. It’s a blog that gathers the hottest, young fashion photographers who post on Flickr and aggregates them for the rest of us. I go there for inspiration. Many of those featured are young and not-so well-off and shoot with older, pro-sumer hardware. But a lot of their photos are outstanding. One such photographer is Jacqueline Harriet Grossbard.

Jacqueline is only 18 but she is what I am now trying to be. Her photos are beautiful and organic. They are simple and clever and pleasing to the eye. Her model’s poses are relaxed and natural. And her shoots are not cluttered with gadgets. Although she recently stepped up to a Canon 5D Mark II, she says that the hardware has nothing to do with her photos.

Often, I look back and realize that some of the work I created back on my D40 could rival the work I’m creating with my 5D; my artistic vision is all the same, I’ve just got a few extra megapixels that allow for higher resolution. I’ve been asked about the technical specs of my equipment frequently, but in all honesty, I believe that a camera is just a camera, a lens is just a lens. Without an artistic eye and an attention to details, the qualities of a good photographer, a camera cannot achieve its full functionality.

With that said, Jacqueline has had her fashion photographs published many times in the past year. Editors go to her for the spirit of her images and are not interested in megapixels. Her images are the kind you can fall in love with. You can stare at them and become immersed in them. And that, to me, is more important than megapixels.

But today it serves as a historic site with visitors from all over the world. And couples who want their engagement photos to look just a little different! Couples like Ashley and Michael!

Eastern State hosts one of the most killer haunted houses around Halloween. Ashley and Michael found a couple “inmates” to goof with!

Lacy is their baby and she goes everywhere with them. So the three, er, four of us did Washington!

Autumn is just a beautiful time to be in Washington. The bright yellows and reds of the trees made the trip just that much better!

Nothing beats the style of Georgetown when it comes to spending an afternoon. Great shops and restaurants are everywhere. Missy and Donny even had their first date here!

Donny is a US Marine so the Iwo Jima Memorial is very special to them both. Donny even proposed to Missy here!

Their wedding is going to be at the beautiful Greenville Country Club next June and I am really looking forward to it!
