Jackie & Tim at the Hotel DuPont

Monday, July 27th, 2009

Shooting at the Hotel DuPont is always a good time but this day we were luckier than most photographers in the area as we got to grab the only slice of sunshine that was to be found the whole weekend. So my crew and the wedding party hoofed it down the block to the Wilmington Grand Opera House.

Mark and Ole were there to back me up. Yeah, boy!

Wow! What a fun day! The lucky couple is off on their honeymoon and I’m going back to editing. Can’t wait to show them their album pre-design when they get back!

Sandy & Kyle at the Radisson

Sunday, July 12th, 2009

I was so flattered when I walked into the Waterford Ballroom for Sandy and Kyle’s wedding reception and saw their engagement photos all over the place for their guests to see! We had such fun that day and got great photos. I had set the bar pretty high but I think we pulled it off!

Sandy and Kyle look great doing whatever. They made me look really good!

Whoops! How did these guys get in here?

IMG_7835

Good luck to the both of them!

Sarah & Teddy at The Bellevue

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

I think the thing I love the most about Philly (besides the people!) are the historic buildings. Sarah and Teddy came all the way up from South Carolina to get married here and they couldn’t have picked a more historic and romantic building than the Bellevue. Sarah knew I was all about the light so she picked a suite with windows on two sides!

IMG_4222

You can’t get married in Center City without the obligatory shot looking down Broad Street. It’s still a lot of fun, though!

IMG_4653

The Grand Ballroom is one of the most ornate and beautiful anywhere!

IMG_4679

I gotta give a special shout out to Chris Kendig who worked overtime to pull down the important shots when I needed them most!

IMG_4755

Even though this was the second of back-to-back weddings, I came away feeling like I was on a cloud! Sarah and Teddy and their families are so warm and made me feel like I was a part of them. I really do have the best job in the world!

Deborah & Pat at the Hotel DuPont

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

Deb and Pat have been friends all their lives. They grew up around the corner from each other and when their friendship grew into love, they had a huge celebration to tell the world! Their Hotel DuPont wedding was awesome (including the weather which has been dumping rain on us for almost two months straight).

I don’t think there has ever been a marriage so set in stone as this one. I wish them all the luck in the world! And thanks to Ryan Estes for helping out on this one!

The Paparazzi Infiltrate My Wedding!

Monday, April 6th, 2009

I’m still editing Alane’s and Frank’s wedding from Saturday and just had to post these. They are super-cool and let me do (almost) whatever I wanted so I staged a paparazzi invasion. That’s my faithful assistant, Mark, behind the camera!

Ha! Who says wedding photography can’t be fun?

All I Can Say Is ‘WOW!’

Sunday, January 11th, 2009

I just checked out the blog of my good friend, fashion photographer Djordje Zivaljevic from Montenegro. We attended the Yervant workshop together. We shot side by side and for some reason, he came away with the most incredible, sexy images I’ve ever seen. Go take a look at his Venice photos as well as the rest of his work. He shoots all over the world so go check him out.

Carrie & Steve In New York

Monday, December 29th, 2008

Cathy and I had the honor of photo graphing the wedding of our good friends Carrie and Steve in NYC yesterday. What a cool place for a wedding! Steve and I go way back and he’s the last one of us to tie the knot so I sure wasn’t going to miss that one!

Steve takes on Wall Street!

JOE_5306

Carrie got ready at the Empire Hotel right across the street from Lincoln Center. The plaza in front is a fantastic place for photos.

JOE_5418

The Empire Hotel is super-hip and cool inside. You can’t got wrong shooting there!

It’s been a long time coming but I know this one will last forever. Good luck, Carrie and Steve!

Elizabeth & Bob at Blue Bell Country Club

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

Elizabeth and Bob have to be about the most laid-back couple I’ve had in a long time. Nothing bothers them. They came all the way up from Arlington VA to Philly for their engagement session and trusted me from the word "go." So when a little rain headed into town, it didn’t bother them in the least.

JOE_3469

I told Elizabeth to "smile, no matter what" and she took me at my word. I never realized I wielded such power!

JOE_3544

I didn’t even have to tell Bob to smile.

We caught some awesome dusk light as we pulled up to the Blue Bell Country Club.

I wish Elizabeth and Bob all the luck in the world. And I have to thank Missy and Mark for the immense amount of hard work they both put in.

Yervant in Venice

Monday, October 13th, 2008

Just came back from the Yervant workshop in Venice and it was a doozy! So many cool settings and beautiful models. A photographer’s dream! And again, as we did in Santorini, we clogged the streets.

JOE_0262

Even when I was supposed to be looking forward and participating in the shooting, I couldn’t help looking all around at the cool colors of the buildings.

JOE_0282

Yikes! Gondola crossing!

JOE_0318

The locations were incredible.

JOE_0340

JOE_0371

We attracted a crowd wherever we went. Some shopkeepers, though, weren’t too amused.

Even the kids around us got in on the action.

JOE_0695

I don’t think there are any ugly parts of Venice.

JOE_0742

Shooting went on well into the night. Good thing I brought my video light.

JOE_0899

Although I only hit the sack a few hours before, Cathy and I just had to get up to catch the sunrise. We weren’t disappointed!

JOE_0931

The busy Grande Canal. I’d take this over an I-95 traffic jam any day.

JOE_1003

I played hooky one day and took a boat to Murano to check out some of their famous glass sculptures. What a great day tip.

JOE_1043

JOE_1052

The setting sun was spectacular as we headed back to Venice.

JOE_1064

You meet the coolest people in Venice. We ran into Flat Stanley at San Marco one morning!

JOE_1119

When in San Marco, the pigeons rule the roost and they’re not afraid to let you know it.

JOE_1125

There is a distinct pecking order in Venice and the gondoliers are at the top. Even with the ribbon hanging from their hats, they’re cool and they know it.

JOE_1168

Me and Cathy took a gondola ride our last night in Venice. It was awesome! Shoulda brought a bottle of wine with us, though …

JOE_1276

What an incredible trip! I’d recommend Venice to everyone and the Yervant workshop to every photographer. I met a lot of great people and learned a lot from them. Can’t wait for the next trip!

Lots more photos at Flickr!

Sarah & Matt at Sofitel

Sunday, October 5th, 2008

When I first met Sarah and Matt, I thought that I had gained their trust. But when we got thrown out of Eastern State Penitentiary during their engagement shoot, I was in fear that they were questioning their choice of wedding photographers. But my fears were unfounded as they gave me every chance in the world to redeem myself by getting married at Sofitel, the swankiest hotel in the city and giving me literally hours to do whatever shots I could dream up. I’m kinda pressed for time right now so this is just a rough edit. No time to even start up Photoshop!

JOE_8734

A proud mama.

JOE_8800

If Sarah hadn’t already reserved the Presidential Suite, I would have offered to chip in for it. What a great room in which to shoot! Awesome light and decor everywhere! (Note to self: Get rid of light fixture before shot goes into album.)

JOE_9001

Handsome Matt has yet to see his bride at this point.

JOE_8992

It’s awesome being able to plan a first meeting

JOE_8909

JOE_9026

Heading down to Rittenhouse Square for photos.

JOE_9107

Oops! Wait a minute! I found great light reflecting off a building across the street!

JOE_9111

Life is too short to be serious.

JOE_9186

Back to the hotel for the party!

JOE_9631

The dance floor was beautifully lit so I didn’t want to blow it out with flash. My able and willing assistant, Mark, was right on top of things with the video light. An what a great Daddy-Daughter Dance!

JOE_0096

Modern camera technology is awesome. It’s now possible to get fantastic shots using just candle light.

JOE_9863

Just one more before I go.

JOE_0161

Sarah and Matt kept on partying way into the night but I had to head home and pack for the Yervant workshop in Venice, Italy. So watch this spot for plenty of photos!
